ALBERTA, CANADA, September 2020 – Centurion Group (“Centurion”), a global leader in the supply of critical services to the oil & gas, mining, infrastructure, power, environmental and renewable energy industries, is proud to offer communities and work sites a testing service for Covid-19 via sewage surveillance collection.
Centurion Water & Wastewater Solutions is delivering the testing in partnership with a reputable Alberta based laboratory. The test identifies the presence of the SARs-CoV-2 virus in wastewater. In addition, our consortium was able to get a full virus RNA sequence from a positive sewage sample, an industry first in Canada.
Centurion Water & Wastewater Solutions has strong experience in the wastewater management industry, having provided government approved wastewater treatment systems for work camps and work sites across Western Canada since the year 2000.
As part of Centurion Group’s response to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Centurion Water & Wastewater Solutions use of wastewater surveillance and testing for the SARs-CoV-2 virus will provide businesses and governments with an early warning detection method for the Covid-19 disease. This critical information will allow Centurion clients to monitor and facilitate the necessary action to prevent the spread of the virus and continue to operate sites at the highest levels of health and safety.
Wastewater Testing
This is a cost-effective means to track the presence of the virus and will be used at sites ranging from schools and recreational grounds to work camps and industrial facilities [across Western Canada].
Mobile Testing
Centurion Water & Wastewater Solutions, in collaboration with its lab partner, is leveraging 20 years of experience by developing mobile testing for Covid-19 wherever it is needed. This will allow for significant savings in testing turnaround time and therefore can better respond to localized outbreaks; whether in a remote man-camp setting, senior’s residence or industrial facility. Centurion Water & Wastewater Solutions has successfully developed its own full Covid-19 testing capabilities for the Canada market and is ready to deploy testing kits in short notice. [Link]
Accommodation Fumigation
Living and work spaces are fumigated in preparation for staffing or crew changes, using health Canada approved disinfectant and the appropriate PPE.
Case study
University of Arizona successfully prevented a Covid-19 outbreak in August by surveilling the raw sewage produced by the University dorms. The sample results came back positive. The students were then individually tested and two had confirmed cases. Centurion Water & Wastewater Solutions did lab testing through the University of Arizona back in May and June to assist with the development of their testing program. [Link]
