WestWater (a Centurion company) replaced chlorine gas systems across multiple sites for a client in the Northern Territory with Hyprolyser® Electrochlorination technology. The upgrades improved safety, reduced risks, and ensured compliant, reliable disinfection for water and wastewater facilities in the Northern Territory.
Scope of Work
A client operating water treatment facilities in Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory, sought to improve safety, compliance, and operational efficiency by moving away from chlorine gas as the disinfection agent.
The client needed to:
- Eliminate risks associated with chlorine gas, including supply, storage, handling, and maintenance
- Align with Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG) and their own internal standards for potable water disinfection
- Upgrade multiple facilities across the region to ensure safe and compliant operations.
Execution
Over two and a half years, WestWater delivered comprehensive upgrades by installing new Hyprolyser® Electrochlorination systems at multiple sites. These systems generate sodium hypochlorite on-site using salt and water, replacing the need for chlorine gas.
Outcome & Value Delivered
- Eliminated the use of chlorine gas across multiple facilities, improving safety for personnel and reducing operational risk
- Delivered fully compliant disinfection systems that meet ADWG and client standards
- Enabled safer storage, reduced handling requirements, and simplified long-term maintenance
- Provided tailored solutions across a diverse mix of facilities, from WTPs to aquatic centers.
This project highlights WestWater's ability to deliver end-to-end on-site generation systems that improve safety, reduce risks, and ensure compliance. By replacing chlorine gas with Hyprolyser® Electrochlorination, we provided the client with safer, more reliable, and sustainable disinfection solutions across multiple sites.
