Completion of Innovative Indirect Water Bath Heater with Burner Management System

Share

Scope of Work

A customer operating in Kuwait required a skid-mounted gas-fired Indirect Water Bath Heater equipped with a SIL 2-rated Burner Management System (BMS) for Zone II, IIA, T3 Hazardous Area installation. The solution needed to function reliably in harsh, humid conditions and support safe and efficient process operations in a remote oil and gas environment.

Execution

Specialist Services, part of Centurion's Middle East & North Africa region, engineered, manufactured, and delivered the complete heater and skid-mounted BMS system. The heater featured an explosion-proof industrial burner, with fuel supplied via a gas train certified for Zone II installation.

To mitigate environmental risks posed by high humidity, the BMS was integrated into a custom-built SS316 stainless steel control panel with Z-type purging. Internal components were treated with conformal coating to withstand ambient challenges. The design enabled safe, remote operation and was mounted on a modular skid for ease of transport and deployment.

Outcome

The solution delivered by Specialist Services increased safety, operational reliability, and environmental protection.

The SIL 2-rated BMS minimized the risk of gas venting and provided automatic shutdown in case of fault detection. The system allowed for streamlined process monitoring via an HMI screen, with real-time data integration into the client’s DCS.

This project marked the first deployment of a fully skid-mounted process heater with SIL 2-rated BMS by Specialist Services, demonstrating the company’s innovation, technical capability, and commitment to advancing operational safety in hazardous environments. The solution also helped the client reduce emissions and improve efficiency while ensuring compliance with safety standards.
