Modular Construction Savings for Thailand’s Erawan Platform Living Quarters Extension

Share

Scope of Work

A 50-man Living Quarters (LQ) extension was required for the Erawan Platform in the Gulf of Thailand, with the challenge of delivering and installing a large, fully equipped offshore module without the high costs and complexity associated with heavy lift barge operations. The environment called for a modular, lightweight solution that could be safely installed using the platform’s own crane, while keeping existing LQ operations uninterrupted.

Execution

Specialist Services, part of Centurion’s Middle East & North Africa region, designed and manufactured the LQ extension—comprising 16 modular units laid out over two levels—in just 8 months. Each unit was engineered to weigh under 10 tonnes to allow lifting by the platform crane. Full electrical, plumbing, HVAC, telecommunications, and fire & gas systems were installed during fabrication at the Dubai yard. The complete module was pre-assembled, tested, and pre-commissioned before disassembly for shipment. Custom hook-up connections between units enabled efficient reassembly offshore by the client’s own team.

Outcome & Value Delivered

The modular design eliminated the need for costly heavy lift barge mobilization, reducing logistical complexity and installation risk.

Offshore hook-up and commissioning were completed in just eight weeks while the existing living quarters remained fully operational. This project demonstrates Specialist Services’ capability to engineer cost-effective, modular offshore accommodation solutions that enhance safety, reduce installation timelines, and deliver measurable project savings.
